Endangered Species by Pat Metheny/Ornette Coleman (1986)

This is probably not the music you want to use to initiate a friend into jazz music. This is hard and heavy and demands active listening. Aside from the two legendary headliners for this 1986 release, this collection of free jazz improvisations also includes Jack DeJohnette and Charlie Haden. There is no shortage of fire power here. Like it or not, it is easy to appreciate that these musicians are working on another level. See if you agree.
